Shun Chef Knife

A Little Shun History

Kai bought Kershaw knives back in 1978, and created what is  now known as the company brand  ‘KAI USA’. KAI then grew from the demand for high end quality kitchen knives, still using traditional Japanese knife-making techniques with modern advertising. Shun Knives were first unveiled to the market in 2003.

There was a real lot of talk when shun chefs knives first got introduced, and most people were saying that they were just to expensive to compete. However the Shun range proved that soon to be wrong! Chef’s and us kitchen enthusiasts alike, fell in love with the Shun knives.

This attention that Shun received had been long coming. Although it was Global that first sold high performance Japanese knives to the Western markets, it was Shun that brought them to light to fanatical chefs and general public.

Shun Trivia

In Japanese, Shun means “Best time of the year” and is pronounced shoon as in moon. Shun knives are extremely sharp coming right out of the box, and have a 16 degree blade angle. Due to the mixture of V10 blade steel they stay sharp for a very long time.

Coming from Seki City, which is Japan’s most renowned historical centre for the making of the Katana more commonly known as ‘the Samurai sword’; Shun  has a seven century reputation for superior workmanship to uphold, and I don’t believe that they have ever let themselves down.

Please ignore the bit at the end about amazoning shun knives somewhere else OK … thanks :)
